The Story Behind This Design
I spent four years in the Netherlands studying for my bachelor’s degree, and it didn’t take long to learn that the bicycle is everything there. Rain or shine, summer or winter, everyone bikes, and everything travels by bike too: groceries, shopping bags, furniture, even children tucked into a bakfiets (a cargo bike with a big wooden box at the front). People really do carry anything on two (or three) wheels, it's fascinating!
This illustration is inspired by the bicycle I rode during those student days. The only thing I changed is its colour, from white to orange, the colour the Dutch proudly wear on King’s Day & football matches.
Like many others, I had bags hanging off the back of my bike for my groceries. But what always made me pause and smile was spotting a bike with a front basket filled with fresh flowers. In the Netherlands, flowers are so easy to find and so affordable that people pick them up weekly, a little luxury I miss now that I’ve been living in Asia.
Bicycle Bloom is my tribute to all of it: my love of flowers, with tulips, the Dutch national flower, winding across the design; the memory of my old bike; and my Indonesian roots. The tulip vines flow in diagonal bands inspired by traditional batik, bringing together two places that shaped who I am. I hope this pattern carries a little of that joy, and a basketful of good wishes, to whatever products you turn it into.

Licence
Your download includes an unlimited commercial licence. This means you can use the pattern and its elements on physical or digital products you sell, such as stationery, fabric, packaging, home decor or apparel, with no limit on how many items you make or sell.
The one thing that’s not allowed is reselling, sharing or redistributing the design files themselves, whether as they are or modified. For example, you can’t sell the pattern as a digital download, include it in a pattern bundle, or offer the individual elements as clipart.
